Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service took centre stage in this years event as they helped not just this age group but
the entire 32 clubs for the four weekends feeding them with bottled water and distributing fruit to each of the players. Tuebrook Champions, The Farmers were playing in their first ever Champions League final, having defeated the group winners
Leighbridge on pens at the semi-final stage last week, had to come from behind in today's final to eventually lift the
trophy which had eluded their club for so long. Quarry Green were slight favourites to lift the trophy, which they'd
won 2yrs previous under the name of NAC Tigers, having defeated holders and Belle Vale Champions Netherley WLL in their semi-final.
They edged in front in this one through an excellent strike from Captain DARREN INSTONE, but were
unable to increase their advantage and pressure from Farmers eventually took its toll when they first levelled the
tie from a BRANDON GOUDIE strike with less than six minutes remaining, and then a free-kick on
the far side of the pitch was floated into the danger area at the far post and DANIEL WHITE headed
the winner passed the Quarry keeper for the Tuebrook side to go ecstatic at the final whistle seconds later. MF&RS
representative, JIM MAYBERRY, handed the trophy to the winning Farmers team together with the Player
of the Tournament JAMES SUTHERLAND also of Farmers and the Golden Boot to Leighbridge's DAVID
MEE for his four goals in the cometition.
